z3950 questions

Marty Jongepier
Hi all,

First of all, thanks, Stephen, for your fast and helpful responses.

I am tackling my problems one by one,as I meet them
I tried to do a Z39.50 search, but I had some trouble, and I am clueless as
how to solve this.

-Question 1, do I have to set up something to make the Z39.50 start
automatically? I started it manually (basically because I was not convinced
it was running) but if I try to do a cat on a log file, my computer says it
doesn't exist or just returns to the command prompt(see below) does that
mean they are empty? I was a bit puzzled (not uncommon for me, but even so,
I like things to work)

-Question 2, the logs that do return something give this output, again, see
below.
Anybody can give me a hint or help where to go from here?

And thanks once again,

Marty Jongepier

Marty, at first glance it looks like your Z3950 daemon is running, but you
haven't started your MySQL server(?)  Maybe?

Hi marty,
your problem may also be due to incompatible mysql server version ( we have already had that discussion on issues with mysql 4 series and the need to revert back).
I dont think not starting MYSQL is a problem as your KOHA will not start and will send u a error status 500 message.
Also check whether in the z3950-daemon-launch.sh script in line 35 u have given the correct user name. and do use some standard Z 39.50 gateways like LOC, AMICUS,CARDIFF  etc.,
Do check ur mysql tables containing the z39.50 result info like z3950results where KOHA stores all the MARC info u queried on and z3950queue to find  out if u form the right queries with the right parameters and maybe marc_breeding table too.
Having the right MYSQL version should definitely make it work and do ckeck the tables.

RE: z3950 questions

Thanks Tom,

It seems it was indeed a matter of file permissions, also for the
z3950-daemon-launch.sh file. I have imported one book with z3950, not much,
but at least it seemed to work ok, although I had to start the daemon
manually, and it gave an error on the 2nd I tried.
But we'll work on that.

First, your log directory permissions have to be set so that the name the
z3590 daemon is running under has write permission.

The koha install script doesn't set this.

Again z3950 questions (sorry)

Marty Jongepier
Hi again,

I still have issues with z3950. I imported one book with it, and after that
I got errors in my log, and no imports anymore, even if the pop-up window
continues telling me "1 requests to go". (Seems to go on forever until I
cancel it, even if I shut down my internet connection)

I am running Koha 2.2.4 on Debian Sarge

See below the log files.

Any help is again appreciated!

Marty Jongepier
