Capturing a "consent" field for new patrons

Chris Brown
Gentle Reader,

We need to capture an email "consent" field when we add new patrons to
Koha. Currently my solution is to have staff type "yes" or "no" into the
borrowernotes field  but what I would really like is to have "yes" and "no"
radio buttons, or failing that a drop-down with "yes" and "no" as the only
options. And it would be really good if the field was labelled "email
consent" on the patron entry form.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Best Regards,

Chris Brown

Chris,

I would suggest using extended patron attributes for this.

Start by making sure the ExtendedPatronAttribute syspref is enabled --
see
https://koha-community.org/manual/18.05/en/html/02_administration.html#extendedpatronattributes

Then set up Patron Attribute Types in administration:

https://koha-community.org/manual/18.05/en/html/02_administration.html#patron-attribute-types-label

You can set this up with the YesNo authorized value.

Re: Capturing a "consent" field for new patrons

Agnes Rivers-Moore
Hello Chris, Barton and the list!

An email consent field is something that many libraries need to accommodate, with recent legislation in US, Europe, Canada...

If anyone is thinking about developing something around tracking email consent, we would be interested.

Useful would be:
- consent field with Authorised Values drop down allowing multiple choices - e.g. Yes/No for library messages, library newsletter, new titles list, library events etc.
- If Yes, then required date - calendar picker
- timestamp recorded when any consent field changes (to yes or from yes to no)
- ability to export (SQL report?) based on consent choices and timestamp (for upload to mailer program)

I am posting here to invite comments, if there is a good response this could lead to a bug request.
